Did you miss the "limited time offer" part of my previous post? Was the offer made in a manner that the landlord would not be able to field bids from the current tenant or any others? Was it made early in the year (May, June) when the tenant was still concentrating on other operations? That could be a problem if you don't have a person whose specific job it is to search for additional ground (or re-negociate a new lease for land already farmed) and actually have to do some of the "grunt" work on the farm yourself. I don't know, but if it was, I can see why the lame-duck tenant wouldn't be happy.
Maybe over the years, the tenant did things at the landlord's home (use of loader, chainsaw, truck, snow removal) that could be considered voluntary and thought he deserved better. I don't know.
Maybe some (or all) of the tenants deserved to lose the ground. I don't know. And I'm pretty sure you don't either. | |
