My understanding (which may be completely wrong) is that the previous tenant in some of these cases were not "outbid". A "limited time" offer was made to the landlord and was accepted (probably because it was so much higher than the current rent, which was made when corn was less than $3). The tenant may have felt he deserved the opportunity to bid or at least be told that an offer had been made to the landlord. If the tenant was indeed "outbid", I don't have a problem with it.
