You must be assuming you can put a bin up for free to be making that extra money. First, the bin costs you quite a bit up front, then you have to dump your trucks twice. Have a tractor and auger ready to go. If you want to dump faster than 30 minutes you better be ready to spend big money on an auger. All of that said we store probably 75% of our grain in bins too but it isn't always as rosy as you make it out to be. If I didn't already have the bins and had to build from new it probably wouldn't happen. I think our commercial elevators may treat us better than some other places. There are a lot of variables to the equation but I probably average .25 to .30 extra in total profit for what we bin but I definately have more time involved there and I have to clean bins which isn't the best job in the world. Your mileage may vary. I think once again this might be a big difference between the corn belt and the plains.
