North Central Illinois | Plow79, it's certainly possible that you are right about the situation. It wouldn't be the first time. It's too easy to get settled in to a rut of "this is what we've always done." If so, the operation is only staying afloat because the paid for land is allowed to return a net less than market cash rent. The best case scenario there is everyone involved sits down and has an open conversation about what is making money and what isn't. Then either reorganize so as to eliminate the non profitable side of things. That way either, dad can handle everything on his own or afford to pay a fair wage for son's help. | |
