I just meant the owning the land your house sits on, that if you told him that you won't be farming, that you atleast have the land your house sits on and can't/won't be kicked off. I'm glad you do own it. Family sucks, don't be 100% sure with your sisters. My folks bought the farm when land was $125 an acre, mid 80's, but my folks paid $150 so nobody(Dads brothers and sisters) would contest it at the time that they were getting it too cheap. Fast foreward to 2002ish, my dads brothers and sisters convinced my Grandpa to hire a lawyer to try and get more money from my folks because they felt he didn't pay enough, land was close to $1000acre then. Needless to say, he had no standing, but Dad still had to hire a lawyer against his own Dad for his brothers and sisters stupidity and greed, and some of my Grandpas. Anyways, the good thing is, is that you aren't blind to the facts of what's at hand. Your Dad knows that you are the BEST person for the farm, but he will never admit it to your face. Putting up with misery for the rest of your life to "get 1/3" surely isn't worth it to me. You know what's the best decision, but finding the courage to do it....that's actually really hard.
I wish you luck for the new year!

A lot of people here have brought up the sisters, and I will just say the one sister is very supportive. Other sister married a large farmer and has stated whatever money she can get her hands on she’s gonna walk away with. You hit the nail on the head with grandpa and great grandpa. Legally I own the land my house is on so I’m not sure what you mean, If you mean buy it just as in “pay him back”. I would speculate my dad would burn the money I give him before he put it in the bank just so he could hold it over me. If I wrote him a check I know he would never cash it. As far as being more concerned with my sisters, that part couldn’t be further from the truth. If he wasn’t forced to at family gatherings I’m not sure he’d even talk to my sisters. He truly is probably one of the most self absorbed people I know.
