All that being said, if one or both of the parents get an extended nursing home stay it is a mute conversation.
This is an important point. If the land is not in a life estate now it needs to be. I believe it has to be put in for a set number of years before it is protected from going to a nursing home.
You could end up watching it all being taken away.
For the OP, what did you mean "we bought a newer combine..." Did you pay for part of it?
Sounds like it would be better to get out and be happy for your share much later.
