EC SoDak | So, I’m in my early/mid 30s, wife not from a farm, and two kids 6 and 3. Similar deal/complaints/concerns from my wife and kids. I don’t have cattle, but it’s a large farm where we keep pretty dang busy through the whole year. My guess is he is just trying to earn his keep and feels it’s “his turn” to go through the sacrifice his parents went through to keep the farm going. This means you’re less willing to ask for help, don’t ask for days off and just do the things yourself, etc. I lived this life, it drained me. You’d attempt to spend time with your family when you could and it wasn’t enough (you miss your family), and depending on age/friends he probably hears crap from them. Eventually you either realize or have to be told, it’s ok to take time off, you just have to plan it. During the busy season? Probably not, but it isn’t 18 hour days every day, unless you’re running your business wrong or doing too much while working a town job.
Moral of the story, he needs to either time manage better or be willing to ask someone to take care of chores here and there.
