This is one of the things that I have an issue with as far as Catholics go. In my opinion you are either married on not. If by not having the church bless your marriage it is not a marriage then you are, as it used to be referred to, living in sin. I know several couples who have not been married in the church so that they will be in good standing if they later get a divorce. It seems to me that the Catholic church takes God's prohibition of divorce seriously but the members have made it a church rule and find ways around it. If it is God's rule there are no loopholes. My Catholic friends seem to have a number of things that they treat this way.
