I went through that 50 years ago and I think the Catholics were a little more strict in those days. The Priest involved has a lot to do with how things go. We were married in the Catholic church but since I was not Catholic it was not a Mass. Now I think you can have a Mass for a mixed marriage. My wife is still a very good Catholic and I am still a back-slider and we have no problems about religion.
And I get along fine with the parish members and the Catholic relatives. So don't over think the whole thing as it can work one way or another. Just be kind and a little flexible.
