Subject: RE: Catholic marrying a non- catholic, need advice

Gettysburg, PA

I was Catholic and my wife was Lutheran AND DIVORCED.  We met with the Catholic priest and he discussed the wonderful $500 annullment process my future wife would have to go through in order to have our marriage recognized by the Catholic Church.  She would have to track down her ex and several of their friends and his family for the church to interveiw.  Just sounded like the silliest and stupidest thing ever to open up those old scabs.  So, I asked him, "What if I don't believe in the annullment thing?"  His response, "As a Cathoic you must."   Well, we left that meeting and I asked my future wife what she wanted to do.  She said she would honor whatever decision I made.  I looked at her and said "If the Catholic Church doesn't want you as is, than I don't want them."  Have only stepped in a Catholic Church for a few funerals since.
