Northern Illinois
Why we as Catholics pray to the Blessed Virgin Mary is we believe that Jesus is the Son of Man. The Holy Trinity (Jesus, God, The Holy Spirit) are like a triangle. Three points but all one God. Since Jesus is God and God chose to send his only begotten son to the earth and become human he CHOSE Mary. Since Mary is the mother of God she is the mother of the world. This is made evident several times throughout the gospel. If you read john 19:25-27 Jesus says to his mother " woman see your son" then The Lord looks at his disciple and says "behold thy mother!" Jesus chose mary as his mother. To be the mother of son of man. The mother of all of us. We as Catholics DO NOT believe Mary is God. But we pray to the mother of The Lord to ask her for grace and to help guide us. Just as a child may ask his mother for advice.
