So when the hired man gets the boot, what will you do when you need another man when dad or uncle want to slow down? You need to learn how to work with/ manage others. I went to college with lots of farmers sons; one huge mistake is to think being family will entitle you to anything without a lot of experience. There's obviously communication issues here between everybody. You say you've talked to mom and dad many times, what about dad and uncle together? You all need to sit together and try to get everyone to say what they want and why, now and in the future. Maybe with an outside facilitator. I worked as an employee at a different farm for two years after college, then at home for several years as an employee, gradually gaining experience until forming a partnership. No employees got released to make room for me. And we sat down with an ag business advisor before I came home.
