If your dad and uncle want the leisurely work pace you describe to continue, they should pay you what you're worth to work with them or come up with some profit share agreement so you at least might have some paper equity to show for the effort. $9,000 per year doesn't buy much help, nor will it provide much for a young family. If they won't/can't give you realistic wages or at least some kind of equity stake, move on now.

The "sweat equity" that everyone else talks about is a nice theory, but it also can be a road to not farming in the future. Dad passes away and the other heirs want their "fair share". See what your sweat equity buys you then.
