It does seem like dad said when you were done with school you'd transition in and hired man would transition out. It's sometimes hard to communicate about conflict issues...on your side too. Do you know exactly why he's holding off on this? Find that answer then work to answer that objection.

If/when you've successfully proved yourself for a couple of seasons, then (with a season's notice), let him know you're moving on.

He claims the reason he is holding off is because I need to focus on my business and we will need to have the hired guy if we pick up a lot more ground. I have been trying for 3 years now and have had little luck. One farm, the others were family deals... I do rent one farm off my dad... (which I am very grateful for). I just don't see the point in waiting on something that may not come for a few years or more. Besides unless is was more than a few hundred acres we wouldn't need a 4th guy anyway... even if we did there is part time help.
