SW “Ohia”
Dryfarmer,

You are wanting someone to work 7 days a week, knows how to operate various types of machinery, be a competent mechanic, applicator license and skills, has CDL with HazMat/tanker, and can weld/fabricate.

That is an extremely tall order to fill. Let alone for $60k a year. You are competing against industries paying $70k to $120k a year for anyone with just 1-2-3 of those skills.

A man can work in a factory (either on the line or in maintenance) for $40k-$60k a year and get 3 weeks vacation with 401k, health plan, and only 40 hours a week. Tanker trucker can make good money for a company or as an O/O. Welders can work anywhere for any pay, just depends on what they want to do.

The people willing to do all these things, for relatively little compensation, are farming on their own. Why wouldn’t they?

You will likely have to steal an experienced guy from a big excavating/construction outfit to fill all those roles, and those folks are NOT cheap, nor are they plentiful.

Consider this: If you yourself can fill all those tasks, how much would you need paid to work that role? If you would be happy doing all that for $60k, I have a feeling there are many farmers on this board that would hire you.
