central - east central Minnesota - | plowboy - 3/3/2012 10:33 I have never been able to understand why it takes a $80,000 truck to haul 2500 gallons of water to a fire once or twice a year, but most any farmer in the country can haul 4000+ gallons to the field every day all summer with less then $10k invested. It's a tank on wheels. Spend the money on the people and stuff that actually fights the fires. There is always the argument of reliability . .. . the cheaper "farmer" tankers could break down and or not be as reliable as the professional fire built tankers/pumpers ~ I then suggested, they could buy 4 "farmer" tanker /pumpers for the cost of the one fire built unit - then redundancy would kick in . . . . . It was pretty quit in the room for a few moments, while several people pondered the comment. Now the argument is, insurance will only covered approved professional fire trk builders . . . . |
