Just a couple comments on hogs in hoop barns - have raised hogs in a hoop since 1999 (and have a confinement too) - sorting is what you make it - if you have the gates set up right two people can sort pretty well - we use cement walls to divide off sort spot so no worse than sorting out of the confinement barn. Manure goes pretty well - move out and stock pile for a week or two and composts into half the size pile. Adding bedding involves opening the door, lifting up the bale over the gate and let it roll - pigs will take care of the rest. If you can, let set empty for a week or two after cleaning. Have pretty good luck with death loss in the hoop in comparison to the confinement barn actually. If we want, we can use the hoop for lots of things - machinery storage, cattle, hay storage or nothing - can't do that with the confinement barn! We're getting closer to quitting hogs - keep downsizing every year.
