Long term yes.

I just took a look at hog margin worksheet, if you were to put your owned pig at $39 in a barn for the next year and pay market price for your corn and market price on soy and ddg you would make $29 per turn or $58 per space/yr vs the $20-18 you get custom feeding. That is the rough math to it. ( figuring a wean to finish barn 2 turns)

I grouped up with other pig farmers and we built a sow farm. This was facilitated by Pipestone Systems.

So I have a constant flow of pigs that I have a say in and ownership. I raise the corn to feed the pigs and use the manure that the pigs produce for fertilizer.
