Here's another thing to think about.    I don't know how old you are but it sounds like maybe 40+   ???

 

How much do you value your legs, knees and hips?      When a 300 lb hog decides to run into your leg you will notice it.

 

 

I know of a local guy that hadn't had any hogs for nearly 20 yrs.   Approx 45-50 yr old crop farmer, put up a 2400 hd custom barn earlier this year.

While loading out the first group of hogs he did a real number on his knee.   Major surgery and has to keep it elevated with no pressure on it for several weeks.

 

I'm sure he had insurance to cover most of it but I bet those medical bills would buy a big pile of fertilizer.

 

 

 

I have a bunch of hogs and always have but if I wasn't already in it I'm not sure I would want to get into raising hogs (for myself or someone else) if I had enough land to farm that would support my family without the work and risk of feeding hogs.
