some great comments on here! As many have said dont expect it to be anything like crop farming!! Its way tougher. No insurance and lots more volatility. if you own the pigs figure on borrowing over a million dollars for barn and hog operating. That is not gonna own you any sows. Also be prepared to lose over 100k on a turn of pigs. It is happening now as we speak . It is gonna be tough for you as a small operator to find a pig source without going through a feed company which is gonna mean higher cost as they try to build in several dollars per head to cushion the risk of guys backing in out when there 42 dollar pigs are 5 and no one wants them.
