You do need a doctors prescription for the cpap unit. Don't need one for headgear and hoses.

If you don't know anything about them a good sleep specialist doctor can be very helpful in its application. Where I have had them for so long the last one my regular doctor just game me a script. Just starting I would say most people need some guidance and help.
