Wasn't a life changer for me either, but I can tell it helps me.  Have had a few nights where the electricity went out, and the machine was off... That will wake you up in a hurry!!

I have found that using distilled water has tremendously cut down on my maintenance.  Used to have a nasty film after the tank was emptied, no more with distilled water.
