I used to farrow a couple hundred at a crack as did some of my neighbors. We did this during planting and harvesting with only family labor and a bit of part time help. Labor per pig wasn’t that much. Would rather do it that way than farrow in crates.



I’d love to see some real records of hours worked and pigs produced.


We had 200-250 sows back when we were pasture farrowing. Kept 3-4 guys busy enough and I doubt we ever marketed more than 4000 hogs out of those sows


Even with 1 guy/100 sows your labor cost/pig is going to be $20+ per pig.
