I loved, lived and breathed hogs from the time I could follow Dad across the hog lot until the crash of 7 cent fat hogs in the late 90's.
It would take a pretty penny to get back into them now and raise them like we used to. I was looking at our finishing floor yesterday (thinking of a way to use the concrete and maybe put a cattle barn on it) and read the date in the concrete when it was redone, 1986. Seems like yesterday, grinding feed, scooping poop, loading 32-34 fat hogs on the stock trailer to haul to town. Lots of memories, but no WILL to do it again. Maybe if the boys get excited in 4-H, most facilities there and wouldn't take much to be in business, but I doubt it. But, never say never. I think I'd rather raise hogs before flipping burgers at McD's. | |
