You should also notice they are being upfront about calling it that.
Way too many people like to claim a hypothesis that they choose to publish is a fact.
With your jigsaw when you start putting it together you soon realize that you have 2 pictures as the pieces fit together.
Follow how these archeologist work and you see how they can look at some bones and pick out where many if not most came from in a body and then identify which species they are from too.
It is like you driving by a field and knowing what crop is planted, how mature it is and a good idea of what the yield might be.
