In my county you can drive around and see several sites where there are 2 building in a site and those sites house 8,000 plus pigs(4000 plus per building). I am not sure you could safely house them all outside. Several days of negative wind chill and deep snow would create serious problems. Outside hogs create a lot of erosion.
We have confined hogs. If I had to change I wouldn't be raising hogs anymore.
