Subject: RE: For the naysayers, google Jeff Reints presentation on this

Why do people trust that the removal rates that are given to us are correct or that the results from their soil samples are exactly accurate. The things we don't understand about soil and fertility far out weigh the things we do know imho. exactly the way i feel, how do we know how much is true just because a company that sells fertilizer and chemical takes soil samples and tells you what you need. you could take a soil sample 2 ft apart and come up with different rates at different times of the year etc. i have been "mining" my soil for years and yet my p and k levels stay the same, what is that all about? i don't buy into all that removal b.s. and definitely not that so many lbs of N is needed per bushel of grain. i have seen 50 lbs of N raise 180-190 bu corn and i have seen 175 lbs N raise 180-190 bu. corn. only thing i have learned from farming 40+ years is there is nothing definite when it comes to how much fertilizer plants need every year.
