Subject: RE: Heftys thoughts on banding

South Central MN
I think banding is the way to go, kind of wonder how it would work to do non-row specific spacing (say 15" where normal row spacing is 30") at various angles to more mimic broadcast over the course of a few years? Done properly the furthest a root would have to travel for fertilizer would be 7.5", mostly less.

Just to clarity I don't think cutting fertilizer below removal rates will end well, but think banding would be more efficient and perhaps allow higher yields, have to compensate with more fertilizer (removal rates) but should pay off in the long run. I have a lot of high PH soils here so broadcast P doesn't do as well, but sometimes not a lot of other options.
