Subject: RE: Heftys thoughts on banding

Strathcona, mn
In my part of the world our soil is 7.8-8.2 ph. My highest test soils is very heavy clay. By the soil test we should apply any p and k. If I don’t apply fertilizer I will have approximately 1/2 a crop. I’ve been banding all of my p and k and most of my n for 6-8 years. By banding fertilizer my yields have gained by 10-20% and my fertilizer is down by 25%. My experience on my farm shows it works here in our high ph soil where tie up is present. Both my planter and air drill are set up to band all p&k as dry product. I haven’t had a floater charge for spreading in 5 years on the farm.
