Subject: Re: New proposed livestock laws in Iowa

The one dairy beside me started up after the ice.I'm seldom around the huge one 20 miles away and dont know anyone that works there..I know they had to buy alot of hay this past winter.

My BIL in NE Kansas still makes a living on 80 acres with some over 100 sows and a few cattle. His wife is just a substitute school teacher. They dont have any extra money but get by.They live in the middle of nowhere in a perfect spot for a large hog operation.Theres no neighbors to the north for a long ways.

The newer the hog barns and the lagoons, the less the problems.I can take you by a large operation 10 miles from me that stores their manure in a covered storage system. It seems to work real good for them. The days of open lagoons may be numbered.

The day is coming when odors will be eliminated..That will make raising hogs much-much easier.
