a lot of the older confinements have lagoons newer ones are gutter flush or pits some even are drying the manure and selling it. Its like cars most had no ac in their cars now would not do without.
Are you talking about the grass based dairies? How did they handle the ice? My strip grazing came to a halt with the ice on. Also how did they get along with the drought this past summer.
As far as buildings sw of your house My house is next to the road and neighbors are to the south so if we built a hog bldg. it would have to be north and east. So I guess every situation is different.
I doubt if many quit because of large dairies or hogs they quit because of narrow margins, quite frankly if hogs doubled in price it still wouldn't be enough for me to go back into pigs even on dirt.
