Subject: RE: GEO Thermal Heat ???....

Northeast Indiana (Auburn)
I'm about 100 miles North of you. I have a five ton unit with (3) 1000' loops 6' deeo. This year has not been cold enough to trigger the backup. This is the second year on the five ton Geo. Once it gets to zero with 15mph winds for 24hrs. the backup will come on. I have the breaker off until the backup is needed. Most of my house was built in 1888 with a 600 square foot addition and full 9' tall basement added in 2008. I heat & cool about 1850 square foot of main floor, 500 square foot of second floor and 1850 square foot of basement with the five ton unit. A four ton unit would have done the job if it would have been all new construction. Since it is mostly old exterior walls we went with the 5 ton unit. My installer won't do a pond install unless half of the pond is at least 15' deep and for a five ton unit you need an one acre pond and the coils are 50' apart.
