In Canada we also sell by the bushel. (We are not really any different than the U.S.)

Depends were you go...

Some feed mills will quote by the metric tonne. Some elevators quote by the bushel. When you get the contract to sign, its usually quoted both ways.

The conversion for this process is 39.368 bu per metric tonne. (So once you have the number in your head its not hard to do!)

But I would say since we all sell by weight ie: 56lbs per bushel, if the trailer was holding 1200 bu last year; this year its holding 1000 bu, there is definitely a reduction in yield!

The poster is right however that its all a reflection of weather and growing conditions.

The yield reduction comes from the fact had the weather been better, there would be more lbs in the corn. Wether on the cob, in the test cup, or the truck!
