Subject: RE: When do farmers go back to growing food?

I have a good friend from college that is an MD. After college married a liberal woman, moved to Minneapolis and his political views have done a complete 180 from being more conservative than me to being quite liberal. Their opinion of the farm program that they've shared with me is this - that all subsidies for farmers should be done away with, and every citizen should have access to unlimited fruits and vegetables, beans and rice for free. Everything unhealthy, e.g. fast food, frozen food, processed foods red meat etc. should be taxed to an extent that they are unaffordable. In their opinion this will crash the market for corn, soybeans and wheat and will force farmers to start growing fruits and vegetables. Of course this discussion was had over beer and pizza and a few outdoor smoke breaks.
