Illinois Heartland | Yes, that’s exactly what we found also. We used the flat led pot lights on all the horizontal 9’ ceilings throughout the house and haven’t replaced a single one.
The Great Room/Kitchen/Dining area shares a common vaulted ceiling reaching 19’ at its peak. We tried the flat led’s in it, but they put off an inherently narrow focused light pattern with a sharp cutoff. They really lit up the center of the room due to the angle of the ceiling but the outer perimeter was dark.
I had to redo them to put in angled can light fixtures that had an adjustable bulb socket (hence the par 38’s) so you could point them straight down. They are heat sinked also but I agree with you that they are most likely contributing to the bulb overheating. | |
