Kentucky

Ron,

If they are pushing at the blade, the draper won't be much better, but what usually happens first is that an auger head will start to slug feed forcing you to drive slower or stop.  It also means that to keep running the reel has to hold the beans back against the auger to feed.  With a draper you can run the reel a little lower and at the cutter bar to keep the beans moving and therefore run longer when they want to push.  I quit at 8:30 last night because I had everything full, but I could have run longer.  With an auger head I probably would have been done at 7:00.  All of our beans are double crop and the difference in how late I can run with a draper in double crop is even greater than it would be in full season beans because of the wheat straw.

As long as you can keep the beans flowing onto the drapers, there are no issues to keep running because you don't have the slug feeding issue.

Just my experience,
