Subject: Fall Tillage in MN

Central Minnesota
I’m just a wanna be farmer who runs some beef cows in central MN. My question is why do the vast majority of farmers work their soybean fields (and corn) in the fall? Is their a large advantage to it planting in the spring? There seems to be a tremendous amount of erosion on the hills with full ditches and gullies. I’m originally from far SW MN (Luverne area) and my family there calls fall tillage of soybean ground “recreational tillage.” I know different things work in different areas and farmers as a whole are very intelligent, I just want to hear the reasons why.
