Fall Tillage in MN

My inlaws are in central Minnesota and I asked them the same, the answer I got is that the soil will be all cloddy in the spring and can never get it worked out right without tillage in the fall and having it freeze up. The frozen worked soil mellows alot better in the spring. No till out there is unheard of and I have heard the same term "recreational tillage" used on bean ground. When we go for Christmas,
I always see the snow banks can be just black with eroded soil in the ditches.
