West Fargo, ND | There are a couple things to look at here. Yes, seed companies are probably putting less flex into hybrids to sell more seed, I don't doubt that. On the other hand, I think you have a better chance of higher yields when you have more plants putting on about the same size ear every year. If you have a high flex hybrid and conditions aren't there you may end up with 20,000 or less plants with small ears. To get big yields out of a high flex hybrid with low populations you are relying on having perfect growing conditions. Having more plants with smaller ears will give you a more consistent return. Besides if they had hybrids that would flex like that on lower populations, they would just charge more for the seed. Corn is not soybeans and will not compensate like soybeans. | |
