Look at a corn yield curve over the last 30 years and you'll see why. I think the national average was like 110 bpa in 1987, and in 2009 it was 160 or so. Higher pops produce more corn. A lot of times the ears aren't as big, but the name of the game is to get the most corn off each acre.
