So then why does a corn plant have potential to put on 8 ears. And when you find one plant with 2 ears on it the second one usually has more kernels on it? Would it not make more yield at 28,000 pop. with 2 ears than 34,000 pop. with one? Like somebody else says it.s about harvestable ears per acre.

The corn plant you get is the corn plant the corn breeder bred. My growing conditions in South Dakota are much more severe than in your state. I merely stated what I think I need. 12,000 ears with 8 oz of corn would make me the Walmart corn guy. Cheap you know. If it is a 50 bushel year I get my money back and can try again next year. If I gave Monsanto all the money they want for 28,000+ seeds I will go broke with stunted corn in my gumbo. (My soil is full of worm holes). Hope I did not get the wrong take on your comment.
