SW OH | I was in the hospital for the first week of September of 2020. I asked about ICU capacity. Several different nurses told me they were near full and had even converted some regular rooms to ICU status. The problem was something like 90% of the people in them did not need to be in an ICU room. Also some of those people didn't need to be in the hospital at all. It was all about the money. The hospital was losing lots of money due to cancelled treatments and surgeries. They were getting federal money for every occupied ICU bed, so they were twisting arms and convincing people to occupy them that didn't need to.
