oregon | We built new about 20 years ago. Here are my suggestions:
1) unless you buy readymade plans, hire an architect. Don't go cheap and hire anything less. Architects think of the little things as well as the big things.
2) think of future expansions such as a deck, an addition, a bigger garage and how that will fit in to your lot.
3) tour, tour, tour. Go on a lot of home tours. You get a lot of ideas. Now you may find the "street of dreams" worse than waiting at the mall for your wife, but indulge her and let her imagination run. One problem we found was incorporating all the ideas into one affordable. package. It becomes a puzzle and one that's not easily solved.
4) most importantly, take your time!! We pushed our plans ahead about a year because of kids and school but we both agree another year of planning would have been far better.
5) go with good, roomy cabinets and lots of storage.
good luck!! | |
