Subject: RE: Building new house

west central wisconsin

We have a full 2 story that we built shortly after marriage.  Should have built a little bigger.  It was 1800 sq ft, and have since added on an enclosed 10 x 26 front porch, as an entry way, etc.  Building in the country meant we have our own well , septic and driveway.  As a percentage of all costs, extra square footage would have been the cheap.  It has raised 3 kids just fine, and we only have one left at home now.  We felt that a 2 story was more energy efficient than a 1.5 story house.  And the lack of dormers on a 2 story makes the roof last longer, and cheaper, and easier to insulate.

I see people build great big homes, and we couldn't see doing that.  Different budgets for different folks for sure.  Bigger means ya gotta pay for it, heat it, cool it, insure it , and pay taxes on it.

Our friends all said we were lucky because we could build our house just the way we wanted.......not really, because we had to be able to pay for what we built.

Good luck with your project....
