Yeah, I find the traction control to be very dangerous and annoying too. Okay if you've never driven a vehicle before, but when you've been operating vehicles for many years without it you're used to a vehicle behaving a certain way under certain conditions i.e. you can predict the behavior of the vehicle. Traction control turns that on it's head, making the vehicle unpredictable. I bet it has caused many an accident!
Traction control has put me in the ditch. I was taking a turn on gravel at a speed that I fully expected to cause a slight fishtail. I spent most of my teenage years buying tires and driving a Camaro sideways everywhere I went. I can drive a vehicle in a skid just fine as long as traction control doesn't interfere. What engineer thought taking control of the vehicle away from the driver when it goes into a skid was a good idea?
I do rather like traction control when it works like the inverse of ABS, reducing power to just as much as does not cause wheel slip in the drive tires. I think it does a great job at that. |
