Our honda pilot does this, I asked about permenently disabling it when we bought it, they said there was no way to do that.
It does have a button by the gearshifter to disable it until you shut the car off, then you would need to do it every time you start the car, which is what we do. Its become second nature to start car, disable auto shutoff and then put it in gear. Do it without hardly thinking about it now
