No vaccine will stop a disease from infecting a person.
Vaccines only work in a persons body HOWEVER if a person has immunity after a vaccine the invading virus is eliminated before it can reproduce in the cells and cause a person to become sick and that stops it from mutating to create the variants

When enough people have been vaccinated to stop the replication of the virus it can be stopped.

If people are not immune to it then they will get sick and reproduce more virus and of course there will be more variants so the secrete is to stop the reproduction of the virus in sick people. Vaccines are the way we can do this just as vaccines have stopped and eliminated other diseases like polio.
