There's money to be made milking if you do it right, and that doesn't have to be 1,000+ head. If you're in farming to get rich you're dumb enough you deserve to die poor, but if you like cattle there's more money going through your bank account every month milking than with beef. It's easier to hold off thre creditors until good times come around if you can send them a couple hundred bucks every month than if you need to wait to sell your calves.
