Clicker is absolutely right here. A guy needs to figure out how to run the cows on rowcrop stubble while supplementing with some cheap byproduct type feed. Maybe do some double cropping with a forage crop ahead of beans, or corn silage (if you need more feed). Obviously you’d need to be able to drylot the cows while the crops are growing, or maybe look into intensively managed grazing on a smaller pasture. I think there’s ways to get things more profitable, but it certainly requires a change from the way you’re currently doing things. I’m painting with a pretty wide brush here, but just going by what you’ve said.
