You are probably right in your operation, the fact that as a cattle producer you have no real subsidized crop insurance leaves you at the mercy of the packers. Yes you can hedge the board or use LRP but it is a broken system that usually only protects a breakeven or loss. You should rent your pasture out and be done with it if you no longer enjoy the work or subsidizing it, who could blame you ! there are still plenty of guys out there willing to run there head against the wall year after year.
